Mrs. Remes started her legal career in 1982, studying Law at Phillips-University of Marburg, before continuing with further studies at the Université de Lausanne and at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich in 1987. During her studies in Lausanne, Susanne Remes specialized on international civil law and comparative law. From 1988 to 1990, she gained her first practical experience in international law during her law traineeship in an international law firm in Caracas, Venezuela, focusing on consulting services for medium sized European companies operating in Latin America. A major part of her studies was dedicated to research and training in tax law and labor law.
In 1992, Mrs. Remes started as a lawyer with the newly established Treuhandanstalt in Berlin, taking over the responsibility for the privatization and restructuring of numerous former DDR-owned companies in the wake of the reunification of East- and West Germany in 1989. Her industry focus during this time was the electronic-, construction-, machining tool-, hotel-, and textile industry. In 1994 she continued her career with the international renowned law firm Beiten Burkhardt Mittl & Wegener (today: KPMG Treuhand Beiten Burkhardt), based in Berlin, as an expert on economic law.
Since 1999 Mrs. Remes is partner of Wächter Rechtsanwälte, concentrating on corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring of businesses, consultancy for liquidation processes and real estate law.
Furthermore since 1996 she is a member of the German-Chinese Economical Forum, providing international management consultancy for all foreign investment related issues within the territory of China.
Since the liberalization of the German energy market in 1997, she served a large number of clients in the energy sector and is today recognized as a leading capacity in this field. Beside the legal supervision for clients acting in this field she has also set up her own companies in various areas of the energy market. She is acting as a Member of supervisory board in the EnergyLink AG since 2000.
Mrs. Remes was appointed notary in 2002.
